SUPERSONIC KENTARO

The world first heard Kentaro’s name at the 2002 DMC/Technics World DJ Championship Final when he claimed the much coveted champion belt with the motto “No walls between the music” and the first perfect score ever in the competition. Kentaro’s track selection and tricks behind the decks, melding hip hop, breaks, drum ‘n’ bass and everything in between is untouchable taking into a realm that nobody has yet to explore. We caught up with him before his gig at WF SG 09.

More than just a technical DJ, Kentaro is a performer, inciting the crowd into a frenzy while titillating the scratch fetishists. Kentaro is moving at the speed of vox.. Sleep on his skills and he’s gonna leave you in the dust.

What are some of the tracks you'll be packing with you?
I have not decided yet, however, like usual, I will bring all kinds of music.

What is the best party you have ever played at?
Most recent one I had in Tokyo at Warehouse, that was real hype and crazy!!! Sweat and humid!!!! (April 10th, 2009).

What are some of the other projects you have been working on outside of the music industry?
My production and I have been working on music related items and fashion related, incense, interior co-ordinating project "end" in currently processing. New Era Cap from the states and I did collaboration cap called "Nippon Yenkees", and made collaboration jeans with Ninja Tune x Ijin Materials. Currently working on making this kit of incense and glass art at the moment. Visual, olfactory sense and listening sense are the keys to my project.

What are some of your plans for the near future?
Keep digging music, playing music is what I do... Trying to come up with my 2nd album as well. Mix album, too, battle breaks, etc....

Who are some of the people you have been collaborating with recently?
Japanese Reggae DIVA, Pushim, I was featured in her album, and also I did some jams at my gig in Bangkok super club BED last week, with the beatboxer called Shamik from Vancoover that was dope.

What do you love the most about playing festivals?
different people, different music, no rules or limitless. Always you find new things from it. Best place.

Best hangover cure?
I m not sure. You should drink more to cover the hangover lol. Or hot tea_?

What was your first record?
Red man and Method man How High, i bought 2 same records.

Secret indulgence - the most terrible song you love to sing along to?
This Japanese Electronic chain shop called "Yamada-denki" their commercial theme song is terrible. but without knowing it, you are singing....
