THE WILD CARD

British producer Stephen Wilkinson, better known as Bibio, is a self-taught musician from the West Midlands. Focusing on location recording using cassettes, a half-broken sampler, dictaphones, and experimental ways of affecting sounds, Bibio has crafted an unequalled style that is as subtle as it is powerful. Having depleted these ideas over the course of three solid albums, he's put them aside to do nearly the opposite. His latest album, Ambivalence Avenue, moves the focus from the flaws of media to their capacity for precision, and takes fewer cues from nature than from the urban sounds, including Dilla & Madlib, that Bibio admits discovering in recent years, revealing his abilities to be startlingly vast.
