BOOGIE NIGHTS

BOOGIE NIGHTS

LA funkateer Dâm-Funk is hot right now. The funk and boogie obsessive - 'Music man first, selector second'- has resurrected the genre of boogie, which got big in the late 1970s and early 1980s, as electronic instruments and disco smoothed out funk's grit, but his songs are also influenced by Chicago house, experimental electronic music and the slow roll of '90s gangsta rap. Thanks to Funkmosphere, Dam-Funk’s weekly L.A. party, as well as various internet-distributed DJ mixes, Dam has been hailed as the “ambassador” of the style. Channeling the past Dâm-Funk brings funk back to the future.

HYPERDUB'S FIRST LADY

Sara Abdel-Hamid – aka Ikonika – is one of UK dubstep's sharpest talents. From the moment she exploded onto the scene with her stunning debut 12" for Hyperdub, Please I Simulacrum, it was clear that a singularly talented producer had arrived, and it immediately caused a lot of people to sit up and take notice. Armed with a formidable cache of intricately programmed bleeps, tough drum patterns that flirt with dubstep, house, R&B, juke and electro flavours, Ikonika finally touched down on Hyperdub with her debut LP "contact, love, want, have". From off kilter rhythms to melodic bliss, Hyperdub's first lady takes dubstep to uncharted waters without skipping a beat.
